Just some warriors fanart for you guys~ c:
I went on a freaking drawing spree last night and this was one of the three sketches I wanted to continue xD
Who can forget this, I mean, it's a classic warriors scene :'D
... I miss the old series... |D

Anywho!
Drew this on paper, took a picture with my iPod, sent it to my email, downloaded it on my laptop, put it in SAI, drew over it in SAI, colored it in SAI, took it into GIMP, shaded it in GIMP, did the background in GIMP. : D YAY

Commissions are next, before I go to visit family for a week or two xD

Art: Me
Rusty/Firepaw: Erin hunter

It's beautiful! I truly love it! But some of the cats look like they haven't been fully erased. I might be being nit-picky, but I look at every single detail. On Longtail's tail, some of the shading doesn't go all the way down to the bottom of his tail. It looks a little off. If I understand correctly, the fight between Rusty and Longtail was in the camp, under the highrock.I see no brambles or rocks in this picture. Longtail should be at least a little bigger than Rusty. I might be wrong, but I thought the battle (between Longtail and Rusty) was with sheathed claws. I'm really sorry if you're offended by any of this. I'm in a nitpicky mood, and if I wasn't I would have a hard time reaching 100 words!

Hurray!! More Ciritques!
What I want to say is how wonderful the poses of the cats are.
I assume that is supposed to be longtail right? :)
I don't know about his fur colour but what I can say is that his expression shows that he wants to kill 'em. XD
The shading and highlighting of the characters are also great and the background is as flawless as always!!
Perhaps, I am an idiot and that is Graystripe :)
Either way that is completely great and you've captured the scene perfectly.
Looks like Rusty is in a battle for his life and you can completely tell.
Awesome work Kat like always.
See you next critique, America
Sincerely,
Canada

Finally. Someone who does Longtail his correct pelt color, silver, and not yellow. Not that I have a problem with people drawing him yellow.

Ah, you asked for Critique! Neat-o. Hope you don't mind my normal-comment critique, I'm a cheep person and won't buy online perks x:
:meow:
I'll start off and say that this is very well done! You have a very unique style of shading that gives the impression of nice soft fur. Perhaps next time you draw a fight scene though, use shorter, sharper lines to make their fur look more like it's bristling with aggression. The angle of the shading gives the impression of multiple light sources, as if they have a few spot-lamps angled toward them for this fight.

I can see you struggled a bit with the perspective in this picture, especially with Rusty. His back left leg is too long, and it gives the viewer the impression that it is his front right leg, while his far right leg is too short and angled incorrectly to match the way the rest of his body is facing (He would have fallen over by now!). It should be a bit more angled toward the viewer to steady his weight. Another little thing I noticed was that Rusty's nose is too high. It gives the impression that he has a stout face like a pug or a Persian cat, but it's hard to tell with the lack of shading. Look at different pictures of real cats as well as realism sketches, and pay more attention to the shadows that make the face appear like something more than a flat plain (i.e., a smiley face drawn on a paper plate). I know, head-on poses are extremely tough to get right. I tend to subconsciously avoid angling characters that face the viewer head on, which is a horrible habit!

Longtail's face, on the other hand, is very well done in comparison! Even without any shading around his face I can see and feel the fact that he is pulling away from Rusty and the rest of his own body. A little bit of thick shading under his chin would help define it even more so.
I see you put two little lines on his snout, and it definitely helps express that he is struggling to break that collar out of anger. My only complaint for that one is, make the lines more pronounced! They seem to be placed there timidly, as if you were not to sure if they looked good or not. But a snarling cat really pulls those lips back, and that causes wrinkles! Wrinkles are a great way to practice different depths of shadows. Try folding a piece of cloth in an odd shape and drawing it. You'll notice that it's very hard to express the depth and shape of the cloth without any shading or highlights. Drawing folds of cloth is hard (in my own experience), but it really helps you learn to define where those shadows and highlights should be.

Taking a small step back from perspective and shadows, another thing that really stands are the flaws in their anatomy. (take a deep breath, I'm not insulting your style here  )
Rusty's back left leg, as I stated before, stands out as odd. Yes, the perspective is off, but what the real problem is where it is positioned. Compared to his other back leg, this one looks like it's grown out of his shoulder or abdomen! In fact, it would have been positioned very well had it been his front right leg.
Oh, that front right leg and paw. That's really what jumped out at me right away. My first thought on this picture was "Wow, that paw...that whole leg...looks VERY broken."
Cats cannot bend their legs feet in the same way that primates can bend and twist their arms and hands. Had that arm been on a picture of a human scratching his chest, it would have worked. But since cats, and the majority of mammals and reptiles, are quadrupeds they use those limbs to distribute weight and walk properly. Imagine walking on your hands all the time. It would start to hurt pretty badly, since your wrists are not made to support weight but rather twist to manipulate their environment (in this case a pencil and a computer mouse, hehehe!).

Longtail's front legs and paws suffer from the same syndrome, though it is not as glaring obvious as Rusty's it is still pretty off. I'm also wondering how he's managing to stay upright, but I'll take the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to the hind leg we cannot see. Other than that, his back right leg looks like it is just casually floating somewhere between Rusty's head and body. It is in need of a little more detail to really finish off the impression that this grey cat is holding onto this poor orange one. Things like claws, toes extended for added surface area and grip, and a bit more definition between what is leg and what is paw.

Hmmm, this is getting a bit wordy, huh? I've never bothered to write out a real critique before, let alone something so lengthy and in-depth.
The funny thing? I could keep going, but it might be easier for me to just copy the picture and SHOW what I mean. I'll only do so with your permission first.
I would never bother typing so much (I really have spent nearly an hour and a half getting all this down ;p ) if I didn't see such awesome potential.

Don't take any bit of this too personally, I'm not insulting you or your art at all. I've been through a lot of art classes over the years and would love to give and get honest, thoughtful critique.
Oddly, I didn't get as much critique in the two college art classes I took as I did when I took painting classes in high school. It was like folks were afraid to upset other people, which is not the purpose of it at all.

Bah! Again, I start to ramble. Sorry for the wall of never ending text!

Incredible job, girl! You're right, I miss the first series so much too. The newer ones suck in my opinion, especially compared to the first. Well, you know what they say, the original is almost always best.
But anyway, I'm still envious on your background skills. o__e
